Easy tips for pinning up your tresses with decorative clips, elastic

When it's too hot to have hair hanging on your neck, a quick updo (securing hair atop your head) is the best solution. Hair updos work well for a case of the frizzies too, as well as bad hair days caused by getting up too late or failed styling attempts. You don't have to look like you're going to the prom to wear your hair up. Here are some tips to get you started.

Don't fuss The best updos are casual. A little twist, tuck and pin and you're finished. Too much messing or aiming for perfection is going to give you the prom look we're trying to avoid. Unless, of course, you really are going to the prom, but that's a different subject.

Try a classic A simple, modern twist can be accomplished by grabbing hair in a low ponytail, twisting the tail then bringing it up on top of your head and securing. Let the ends flop out for a casual look. Easy enough to do without a mirror. A bun is just as simple, but higher up on your head. Leave the ends out to avoid looking dated or uptight.

Use the right accessories Decorative clips, elastic bands, combs and pins can be helpful in different situations. If you're putting up part of your hair, a pretty clip should do it. If you have a lot of hair, you might want to start by securing it all in an elastic so your hands aren't overwhelmed.

Combs are beautiful, but not every hair type can support them. Buy a selection of drug store hair accessories and experiment until you find what works best on your hair. Then splurge on the fancier varieties.

Most importantly, experiment in a mirror and follow what is most flattering to your hair and face. A little playing around will quickly reveal whether you're best off with bangs left free or pinned back, high or low updos. Once you know what looks good on you, you can pick some new styles to try.
